Big game hunting, a new sport for Chinese tycoons

A controversial sport of big game hunting is becoming popular among Chinese tycoons, more and more country’s rich join hunting expeditions in Africa and Canada. At least 100 Chinese tycoons have hunted overseas, with the number increasing.

W. Scott Lupien, an American lives in China, founded I Love Hunting Club in Beijing. He led the first hunting group to South Africa in 2009. At that time he said the opportunity to develop overseas hunting industry was open to China.

In Lupien’s office, he displays various kinds of specimens, including a head of gazelle and zebra mane hunted by himself.

In 2009, he took two hunting groups to South Africa. “From June last year to January this year, I already led 8 groups.” He said. The size of each group varies; the normal group is 3 to 6 persons, and high-end 1 to 2.

On his website, we could found the hunting group offers range from 59,800 to 498,800 Yuan, covering Africa, North America, South America, Oceania and Europe. For example, the 14 days Canadian polar bear hunting is 498,800 Yuan, including a male polar bear, which means his customer has the right to shoot a male polar bear in the hunting ground.

Lupien says there are two kinds of clients, with one type being hunting enthusiast and the other being tycoons who have never hunted. Most his clients are bosses, executives and government officials. Wang Wei, a hunting broker since 2004 from Beijing Zheng An Travel Agency says most of these people are businessmen, usually at their 40s and 50s, idle and rich, love off-road vehicles, outdoor sports, and do not have psychological barrier to shoot.

“We mainly stress two points, one is to protect animals, and the other is safety.”  Lupien defines hunting as “hunters and the government jointly protecting animals.”  This is the prevailing view of hunters, but slashed by environmental organizations.

At present over 100 countries allow hunting. In U.S.up to tens of millions of people participate in the hunting games, killing over 300,000 animals annually, each year consumption amount is over 20 billion U.S. dollars.

Although hunting business has brought revenue to Kenya and Tanzania, this is increasingly being questioned. InTanzania, lions available for hunting are becoming less.

However, Feng Yongfeng, a researcher from an NGO says, “Chinese people don’t have ability to hunt, and they cannot learn how to protect nature through hunting neither. Although a group of people have gone abroad and learn about nature, most of them still seek novelty and covet blood after return. It is impossible to gain benefits for the environment.”

Collected below are photos of Chinese and their preys.

Wow, the ignorance of tree humpers is absolutely astounding.

  2. Walao says:

Apparently, hunters of chinese origin represent 1.2 billion of their fellow nationals now. I must have missed that memo. Yes, use racist stereotypes and dehumanize them. Show us how sane and caring animal-rights activists can be.

  3. TAM says:

I hate killing animals other then human being . Why are you do this ???
for eating , for your living ! If not , for your devils mind ???

  4. Larry says:

Pathetic losers…Lupien is 100X worse than these guys going on “their adventure”…. both are guilty of taking an innocent beautiful animal. Seriously disturbed warped minds.

  5. Jennifer says:

Killing for pleasure firstly is vile and offensive. Saving and caring for life is something to revere not taking it. These animals cannot shoot back. It is NOT sporting at all. It is merely selfish , Cruel and foul. What twisted souls delight in the torment of others!

We must ALL get together and fight this terrible crime – my friend Kurt Baguette has issued a photograph of a lion with a rifle in it’s paws — in self defence – something I have ALWAYS maintained is right|! I lived in East Africa for many years when life was so beautiful and free, wildlife was plentiful. The making of the film “Born Free” changed a lot of people’s ideals – WHY can’t these rotters be shot at – maybe it’s the only way to stop this terrible tragedy. Once our wildlife is no longer around what will these “hunters” need to hunt – and our children to enjoy photographing. I was very lucky to live alongside them.I’m with you all the way to try and STOP this massacre of such lovely animals.

DESTRUCTION IS EASY! ANYONE CAN DESTROY! BUT ITS MORE DIFFICULT TO BUILD AND TO DO SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE! INSTEAD OF WAISTING TIME AND MONEY ON USELESS KILLINGS WHY NOT HELP THE POOR POPULATIONS WHICH ARE IN NEED! THIS IS AN ACHIEVEMENT, SOMETHING THAT ANYONE CAN BE PROUD OF. WHERE IS THE PRIDE IN KILLING A DEFENSLESS LIVING CREATURE, NONE BECAUSE ITS SIMPLY COWARDICE. WHAT BEST EPITAPH IS TO BE WRITTEN ON ONE’s TOMB HERE LIES A KILLER OR HERE LIES SOMEONE WHO HAS DEDICATED HIS WHOLE LIFE TO HELP OTHERS
BY CREATING SO MANY ASSOCIATIONS. YOU HAVE BEEN BLESSED BY HAVING SO MUCH MONEY, SO WHY INSTEAD OF WAISTING IT, DO YOU NOT USE IT TO DO SOMETHING USEFULL. THEN YOU WILL UNDERSTAND WHAT IS REAL PRIDE

What a disgrace, obviously feels he needs to be masculine for some reason must have a tiny cock!!!!!!!!

  12. C. Morgan McNeil says:

Wrong, or emmulating the very worst, East or West, killing for the sake of display indicates utter disrespect for life. The sports hunter, be that man or woman the uneducated descendent of a gun powered American, or some empowered sportsman from whatever ancient nation is a weak spirit and self-serving, but one who mayhap moralizes to condemn others. Honour belongs to those who honour life. No matter a man be poor, illiterate or despised by the rich, respect for life, charity and kindness marks him, a great soul. Gratuitous violence scoundrel, the criminal or fool.

  13. Bonita Read says:

Amongst the human race, walks monsters (not humans), who have zero conscience! these monsters can be likened to murderers, rapists and child abusers as they have NO respect for the innocent and obviously have zero self-respect !

Do they really believe they are heroes when they kill a defenseless animal with a gun? I bet these same guys wouldn’t last two minutes in a fist fight with a man … or a woman for that matter.

What are we doing to stop this? What are governments doing to stop this ? NOTHING, ZILTCH, ZERO ! We, the citizens of our country need to do MORE!!! and we need to appeal to govt to step in. I say boycott all product made in China – and yes not always possible in all industries but stop buying the Chinese crap that gets dumped in South Africa as much as you can and … to be honest, China is not the best place to visit if you are keen tourist. MUST better places in the world to encounter decent societies and people who care.

  14. Susan Baetz says:

The Chinese are known for their bloodthirstiness and have no respect for nature. But the countries who allows the hunting, are partly responsible. They want money and the rich Chinese authority! Shame on them!!!!

  15. Helena Anttila says:

“We mainly stress two points, one is to protect animals, and the other is safety.” How can hunters say that? It is the same like saying, “We never tell a lie, but now.” Who gives you, W.Scott Lupien, a right to distribute death sentences to animals? You do not own them, they belong to themselves. How can you live with yourself, Lupien? And for all the people in the pictures: You have the money and what you do with it? You fools go and spend it for destroying animals most of which are already endangered. Know this: Once they are gone, there will be no money to have them back and that is all because of the greedy murderes such as yourselves. You do not deserve the money. You could do good things with money, for example you could help the poor people in Africa, or any charitable organisation, or organisations that actually protect animals, but sadly you are too far in the path of evil to understand what I am talking about. You do not even know what the term “protect” means for you do not know the difference between right and wrong. I wonder how can you look yourselves in the mirror, for there is the devil looking back at you. I feel sick to look at the pictures of you with the poor animals who have never done a bad thing for you and who you have murdered in cold blood. Shame on you. You are the disgrace for humanity.

  16. ChinaSucks says:

Scott Lupien is another example of US hunters making money at the expense of killing and spreading propaganda about hunting. As if the Chinese could handle even more hatred from the world. They have already poached and killed millions due to their ignorant beliefs about medicinal properties of animal parts, which is completely FALSE. I have never seen a more stupid group of people than in Asian countries for their complete lack of knowledge, idiot beliefs, cruelty to animals (can we say bear bile farms, skinning dogs and cats alive, beating dogs to death on the streets, poaching, etc etc.) The list goes on and on. And now another blow to their violent reputation – more killing of animals for “sport” under the guise of “conserving” So, instead of donating all your rich dollars to ending poaching through education and on-the-ground task forces, you add to the problem by killing more animals. You won’t forgive the rest of the world for completely hating you. Your track record is appalling and your movements going forward are to cause more terror and destruction. Rich people – yes…… smart people NO. Absolutely no respect for life. At the end of your own lives, I hope you realize that you will die the same way you have lived; either by helping this planet or destroying it.

  17. Chris Mercer says:

China, you are being lied to when you are told that hunting is conservation. See our website: hunting is environmental terrorism.

  18. Caroline Moyer says:

Imagine these same people grinning and gloating over human dead bodies that they took pleasure in killing. Is there anyone who wouldn’t have a problem with that?

  19. Lori Sirianni says:

Trophy hunting like this is exactly what a friend of mine – who is a conservation photographer – called it last week while we spoke. Its “a form of masturbation” for these sickos. Nothing less. This is psychopathy at its worst, against the most defenseless victims, for some warped, sick sexual pleasure. I’m so sorry if these cretins got short-changed in the size of their genitalia but they need to then find smaller human sex partners, not blow away Africa’s or Canada’s wildlife to make up for their shortcomings. We don’t want or need you putrid sickos here in Canada killing our polar bears! Stay out!

  20. Rosie says:

Between the redneck Yanks and the Chinese there won’t BE any wildlife anywhere in the world soon ! I HATE them !

  21. Robin Miller says:

Wow, China. You are already really unpopular because you are responsible for destroying thousands of rhinos and elephants, through your markets for ivory and rhino horn. If you carry on destroying wildlife at this rate, there will very soon be nothing left. And you will have earned the condemnation of all right-thinking human beings on the planet.

  22. Outraged says:

I will never understand the delusion that is the hunter’s mantra – that by killing they are contributing to conservation. These Chinese tycoons have an opportunity to use their money to preserve our wildlife, but like Americans and South Africans who exploit wildlife (animals that do not belong to them) all they can think of is how to make money and their bloodlust. These aren’t men, these are cowardly, heartless lowlife scum.

  23. kaustubh says:

these people should be hanged and shot with equal brutality as they have killed thse innocent, animals. instead of killing these inocent, defenceless organism i would insist these ugly filthy, cruel hunters to kill some of their own countrymen and reduce the evergrowing burdensome ,unnecessary population onthe planet.shame on these people.

  24. Random says:

This is gay look at these pathetic Chinese guys thinking their the man cuz they shot some poor defenseless animals. Someone shot an elephant!!! Seriously these rich people should get shot! They should never be allowed to leave this country they don’t understand the importance of protecting wildlife cuz there’s no wildlife in china they ate them all

  25. Canadian says:

I saw on the news he brings Chinese Nouveau Riche to come and hunt here. Stay out of our country if you want to hunt. We don’t want you here killing our wildlife.

    • Caroline Moyer says:

Thank you, Canadian. I don’t want them here, either. The last thing we need is to let them rape our country of its beautiful wildlife. We like our animals living, not blown away by small men with small penises.

  26. China Whisper says:

Thanks, I have corrected the mistakes.

  27. Some Guy says:

“In Lupien’s office, he displays various kinds of specimens, including a head of gazelle and zebra feather hunted by himself.”
    >>Feathers “羽毛”, are grown exclusively on avian “禽” animals, Zebras (not a bird) “斑马” do not grow feathers. (if you refer to the hair that grows on their head and neck, its called “mane”)

“…which means his customer has the right to shot a male polar bear in the hunting ground.”
    >> “shot” is a past tense (过去式) of “shoot”, in this case, you want to use the word “shoot”.

“We mainly stress two points, one is to protect animals, and the other is safety.” Lupien defines hunting as “hunters and the government jointly protecting animals.”
    >>HAHA, suck a big fat horse dick Lupien, tell that to the thousands of animals you killed just for “thrills”

“Chinese people don’t have ability to hunt, and they cannot learn how to protect nature through hunting neither. ”
    >> Agree. I suggest we should start hunting Chinese people for “Games”.
