Top 10 China Luxury Brands

China has attracted an influx of global luxury brands with some arriving in the country in the early 1990’s. China’s luxury retail has been dominated by foreign brands since then. However, in recent years some local luxury brands start to grow up. What are the local luxury brands? Here is a list of the top 10 Chinese luxury brands:

1. Moutai (贵州茅台)

Moutai is hailed as China’s “National Liquor.” it is the country’s most expensive domestic spirit. Older bottles are so sought after that they sell for millions of yuan at auctions.

2. Wuliangye (五粮液)

China`s high-end alcohol Wuliangye is among the best-selling luxury liquors worldwide. The specially-packed supreme quality Wuliangye Spirits is sold at the price of 26,800 yuan (RMB) per bottle. Wuliangye was listed among 10 Most Valuable Luxury Brands of the World in a report released by Chinese research institute Hurun Report in 2012.

3. Red Flag (红旗)

Red Flag is top-level self-brand luxury car in China. Chairman Mao launched the Red Flag in 1958 because he thought China needed its own luxury car. Now government officials and state-owned enterprise chiefs usually use Red Flag for official occasions.

4. Sea-Gull (海鸥)

Sea-Gull is a time-honored Chinese luxury watch brand. Sea-Gull’s Tianjin factory made China’s first watch in 1955 and the product was once seen as a luxury item in China. But the brand has gradually lost its appeal since the 1990s, with the high end taken over by famous Swiss brands.

5. Rong Bao Zhai (荣宝斋)

Rong Bao Zhai is a brand for painting and calligraphy. The brand was set up in 1672 in the Qing dynasty. Rong Bao Zhai ranks first domestically with powerful influence and competitiveness in painting and calligraphy marketing.

6. Shui Jing Fang (水井坊)

Shui Jing Fang is the oldest distiller on record, dating back 600 years. With long history, it creates the ultimate masterpieces of luxury spirit. The price varies from hundres of Yuan to thousands of yuan per 500ml bottle, It is a  luxury spirit to be sold for gifting, consuming with a meal or a premium treat.

7. Changyu (张裕)

Started in 1892 by Zhang Bishi in Yantai, Shandong Province, Changyu is China’s oldest and largest winery. It is now ranked as the 10th largest winery in the world.

8. Ne Tiger (东北虎)

Ne Tiger is a clothing brand in China. It is now a representative of local luxury clothing brands. It has organized the opening show of the China International Fashion Week in Beijing for 10 consecutive years. A fur coat of the brand costs thousands of yuan.

9. Shanghai Tang (上海滩)

The brand was established in Hong Kong in 1994. Shanghai Tang is a luxury fashion brand who settles to change the image of “Made in China” by establishing itself as  luxury Chinese brand. The positioning of the brand is luxury, upscale and unique creation with a “Chinese touch.”

10. Lao Feng Xiang (老凤祥)

With more than 150-year history, Lao Feng Xiang, which was established in 1848 is a centurial brand in Chinese jewelry business trade. Lao Feng Xiang gold jewelry has won the title of “China Top Brand”, which is the only China Top Brand product in Shanghai jewelry business line.
