The 5 Strange Stones from China

Strange Stone is the Chinese term for a small rock shaped into a familiar form. Chinese like to collect various strange stones and put them in their study room to show their refined taste. Here is a list of some strange and precious stones from China.

1. The Jadeite Cabbage 翠玉白菜

The Jadeite Cabbage is a piece of jadeite carved into the shape of a Chinese cabbage. There is a locust and a katydid camouflaged in the leaves. It is collected in Palace Museum in Taipei, Taiwan.

2. Dongpo Cubed Pork-shaped Stone 东坡肉形石

This “Meat-shaped stone” looks just like stewed Dongpo pork. Not only are the layers of fat and lean meat clearly defined, even the pores on the skin above are completely rendered. The stone is now collected by Taipei National Palace Museum.

3. Age 岁月

This fist-sized rock looks like a western woman`s head. The nose, mouth, forehead wrinkles and hairs, all these portray all characters of an old western woman.

4. Chick Hatching Stone 鸡雏出壳

This agate stone looks like a light yellow furry chick which is trying to break the eggshell and extend its head out. It looks so life-like.

5. China Eagle 中华神鹰

The stone looks like a real eagle. This is a natural rock. Its curved beak, sharp eyes, perfect lines, all these make it look like a real eagle.
