10 Chinese celebrities who got famous on CCTV New Year’s Gala

With the largest audience in the world, the five-hour CCTV Spring Festival Gala or “Chun Wan” in Chinese is a dream stage for aspiring entertainers. Many Chinese celebrities got their fame on this national big party, listed below is the 10 famous Chinese celebrities who got their fame on this gala.

1. Li Guyi

Li Guiyi is the first pop singer from the Chinese mainland. In 1983, on the first CCTV Spring Festival Gala, Li Guyi sang the once banned song “Nostalgia” in front of the whole nation and altogether she sang nine songs, which left deep impression on Chinese people.

2. Zhang Mingmin

In 1984 Spring Festival Gala, Zhang Mingmin sang the song “My Chinese Heart” to express love for all Chinese people overseas. As the first Hong Kong singer invited to the Gala, Zhang himself became a national focus and quickly became well known across the country.

3. Chen Peisi

It was in 1984’s Spring Festival Gala that Chen Peisi and Zhu Shimao successfully introduced their show “Eating Noodles”, and it was from then on that that show was widely accepted in China. Chen’s success made him the no.1 Chinese comedy star.

4. Dong Wenhua

The Spring Festival Gala of 1985 was critisized because of the general poor quality of the performances, Dong Wenhua’s song “The Moon in Mid-Autumn” was the only popular one.

5. Fei Xiang

Taiwan singer Fei Xiang performed his song “A Handful of Fire in Winter” on China’s Spring Festival Gala in 1987. The gala was nationally televised and was probably the only entertainment activity for people on New Year’s Eve in the 80s. Fei Xiang became a household name overnight.

6. Mao Amin

Her song  “Love For the Root from the Leaves” in 1988 for the Chinese New Year TV Celebration “made both song and singer extremely popular in Mainland China. The New Straits Times described her as “China’s most popular singer,” and “China’s top pop singer for the past four years” before 1990.

7. Wei Wei

In 1988, her fame rose with the theme song  “Dedication of love” for CCTV’s Chinese New Year’s Eve Show.

8. Mao Ning

In 1993, he sung the song “The wave still as past” at CCTV Spring Festival Gala and became famous overnight.

9. Li Qiong

In 1996, Li Qiong sang the folk song ” Eighteen Curves on the Mountain Road” on CCTV Spring Festival Gala and became famous around the coutry overnight.

10. Chen Hong

In 1999, Chen Hong sang the song “Often Go Home Look Have a look.” on CCTV  Spring Festival Gala and became famous soon.
