Like Hollywood and universal studios in America, China also has lots of film studios where movies and TV dramas are made. Here is a list of the most famous film studios in China.

 1. Hengdian World Studios (横店影视城)

Hengdian World Studios is the largest film studio in the world and dubbed as “Chinawood” by Western media. It is located in Hengdian, a town in the city of Dongyang in Zhejiang Province. The studio consists of 13 shooting bases with a total area of up to 330 ha. It is where movies like Ang Lee’s Oscar-winning “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” Zhang Yimou’s “Hero” and “The City of Golden Armor” and Chen Kaige’s “The Promise” were filmed. But perhaps the widest exposure Hengdian is from the movie “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.”

2. Shanghai Film Park (上海影视乐园)

Shanghai Film Studios Amusement Park is a site for film & TV shooting,sightseeing,and cultural communication. There are many different scenes of Old Shanghai in the park, such as “Nanjing Road in the 30’s”,”Shanghai traditional houses”, “Downtown Shanghai in old times”, “European style architecture”, “Suzhou Creek”, “Church”, “Peace Plaza”, “Old Shanghai bridge”, “Lake and mountain area”, large soundstages, a costume and prop ware-house, a film library and various screening rooms. 3. Zhongshan TV and Film City (中山影视城)

Located at Cuiheng Village, Zhongshan city, Guangdong Province, Zhongshan TV and Film City is the only shooting base themed by the life of Sun Yat-sen. 4. Changchun Movie Wonderland (长影世纪城)

Changchun Movie Wonderland is the first Chinese film park and dubbed as the East Hollywood. 5. Bei Putuo Film and TV City(北普陀影视城)

Bei Putuo Film and TV City is located in Nangong Village, Daxing District in Beijing. Covering an area of over 30 hectares, it is a multifunctional movie culture city, which combines film sets and locations, sightseeing, entertainment, movie education and cultural exchange. It houses over 20 scenic areas and 50 sights, which are distributed orderly.

6.Tongli Shooting Base (同里影视基地)

Tongli is one of “the Chinese Top Ten Shooting Bases”. This ancient town is situated in Jiangsu Province,east China, has the unique rivers and lakes in town. Tongli is reputed as the Oriental Venice. Surrounded by water, Tongli is inlaid in the area of five lakes, therefore has abundant small bridges. Tongli is famous for its large number of architectures built in the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, as well as historical famous people.

7. Xiangshan Film and TV City (象山影视城)

Located in Xinqiao town, Xiangshan county, Ningbo city in Zhejiang Province, Xiangshan Film and Television City is honored as one of China’s top ten film bases and the designated movie and TV shooting base in China. So far, the Town has built the Shendiao City, Chunqiu City, Journey to the West Area, the economic hotel area, studios and other functionality and supporting infrastructures of the base. Since its official opening in 2005, the movie base has received over 160 film and TV crews and 4.3 million visitors, including the famous crews, Condor Heroes, Sacrifice, The Four, The Last Supper and The Lion Roars.

8. Zhenbeibu China West Film Studio  (镇北堡西部影城)

Located 35 kilometers northwest of Yinchuan City, Zhenbeibu China West Film Studio sits on the site of two ancient castle relics built during the Ming and Qing dynasties to defend against the invasion of tribes from the north side of Helan Mountain. It is a paradise for filmmakers and is the place where over 60 movies have been filmed since the 1980s. Walking in the city, mysterious ancient ruins and rustic Hui customs will take you to a world that is far away from the noise.

9. Jiaozuo Film & TV City (焦作影视城)

Jiaozuo Film & TV City is located 1 km far from the north of Jiaozuo. It is a large shooting base for the film and television. It covers an area of 15 000 square meters. The film and television city has been built at the foot of Mt.Fenghuang. It consists of four parts, the city gate square, the palace of Zhou Dynasty, the palace of Chu Dynasty and the downtown streets. The downtown streets concentratedly embodies the production and living environment of the ordinary people during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring Sates. The unique scene is perfect for film and television as well as entertainment.

10. Zhuozhou Movie and Television City (涿州影视城) (Closed since 2016

Zhuozhou Movie and Television City is located in Zhuozhou city, 48 kilometers south of Beijing. It is composed of ancient pavilions, towers, terraces, courtyards, bridges and corridors. The most fabulous scenic sight is the Bronze Peacock Terrace which was truly existed in Three Kingdoms (220–280).
