Tips on buying products from Chinese shopping websites

When buying products online from China, it’s important to consider several factors to ensure a smooth and satisfactory shopping experience. Here are some things to consider:

  1. Seller Reputation and Reviews: Check the reputation and ratings of the seller or the online marketplace. Look for reviews from other customers to gauge their experience with the seller and the quality of the products.
  2. Product Descriptions and Specifications: Carefully read the product descriptions, specifications, and images provided by the seller. Ensure that the product meets your requirements and expectations in terms of size, features, and functionality.
  3. Authenticity and Counterfeit Products: Be cautious of counterfeit or imitation products. If you’re purchasing branded items, verify the authenticity and legitimacy of the products to avoid purchasing counterfeit goods.
  4. Shipping and Delivery: Understand the shipping options, estimated delivery times, and associated costs. Some sellers may offer free or discounted shipping, while others may charge additional fees. Consider the delivery time frame and choose a shipping method that suits your needs.
  5. Customs Duties and Import Taxes: Take into account any potential customs duties, taxes, or import fees that may be applicable when importing products from China. These costs vary depending on the country you’re importing to, the value of the products, and the specific customs regulations.
  6. Payment Methods: Verify the available payment methods and ensure they are secure and reputable. Consider using secure payment options such as credit cards or trusted payment platforms to protect your financial information.
  7. Return and Refund Policies: Familiarize yourself with the seller’s return and refund policies. Understand the process for returning products if they are defective, damaged, or not as described. Check if the seller offers a warranty or guarantees for their products.
  8. Customer Support and Communication: Assess the seller’s customer support channels and responsiveness. Ensure there are reliable means of communication to address any concerns, inquiries, or issues that may arise during the purchasing process or after receiving the products.

I think service and product quality on B2C websites are usually better than B2B websites.

JD.com(https://www.jd.com/) and Taobao are the two largest shopping sites in China, the prices are much cheaper. Language barriers are no longer an issue if you use google translate. I like to check thousands of reviews before buying, it helps me avoid wasting money.

They can ship items to US directly and payment is not a problem. However, if you live in another country, an agent will help u a lot. Such as bluecatcher (https://www.bluecatcher.com/)or superbuy.

A lot of the time, buying from Chinese online retailers is ok but just wait until there’s a problem with one of your orders (and there will be – trust me, oh yes, there WILL). Then you’re dealing with their customer support departments and you get to see the true face of Chinese capitalism. They lie, make promises that they’ve no intention of keeping, try to get you to accept a more expensive product (and pay extra!) and stoop to any low-life trick to hang on to your money. Even escalating your issue through PayPal has no effect. They still won’t budge. And I’m not talking about the smaller retailers here. I’ve had problems with Gearbest (the worst – check out the reviews on TrustPilot), AliExpress and FastTech. PersonallyI don’t buy from Chinese retailers any more and I’d advise anybody else not to either. You might be happy with them at first but you’ll soon come to regret it.

Oh yes . Ali Express being the worst . 15 days to complain about an amplifier is Not enough . It does state in most of the adverts that there is a 95 day guarantee but this is totally false . Took 4 months and a refusal to pay my CC company before eventually getting a part refund . Also remember these firms may send out form UK based warehouse but if an Item is faulty they insist on return to China . You have been warned . If alls well then fine but as You say Tom. Any issues and your on your own .

Your budget is really small considering the fact you paid for all of your acommodation. I totally recommend CouchSurfing, I saved a lot using CS.”

While I think there are good reasons why responsive design isn’t a good option, I don’t think you hit on them here. Let me reply to each of your five points:

    1. Defeats user expectations. In the example you showed, this is how that one designer created their site. They choose to move the navigation and sidebar. However, that is like saying desktop design doesn’t work because someone poorly designed it for the desktop. I could point out hundreds of bad designs for responsive design, but that doesn’t mean responsive design in general is not effective.

    2. Costs more and takes longer. Yes, yes it does. But are you going to just be lazy and not optimize your website for what your users are browsing your site on? If you do not have users viewing your site on anything but a desktop, using responsive design does not make sense. But if you need a mobile optimized site, responsive design is the answer as it allows you to target all browser sizes verses adaptive design that only allows you to target one.

    3. Non-Responsive Designs Usually Work. Personally, I HATE using my phone sideways unless its for a specific app. Otherwise, I always use my phone vertically, especially for browsing the web. So you are going to tell me that its a better design and user experience to make me turn my phone side ways to view your site? And that showing me the font size super small is user friendly? No way.

    4. There is Often No Load Time Benefit. This is probably your best point, but it really depends on how a user designs the site. By not doing anything with media queries, your logo will become pixelated on my retina devices and decreases the value of your brand. Developers can optimize the site for smaller screens with responsive design, though some choose not to.

    5. It’s a Compromise. I usually quickly browse away from a site on my phone if they aren’t optimized for it. I hate being forced to zoom in and then have to scroll horizontally to view a paragraph of text. That is very un-user friendly.

Have you even read Responsive Web Design by Ethan Marcotte or Mobile First by Luke Wroblewski? It does not seem like it.

I am one of those online shopping addicts who like to buy products from all over the world. I prefer shopping from worldwide shopping sites because this allows me to not only get the best deals but also helps me find the fanciest and best products. Sometimes to get the best deals and products I need to go through a global online marketplace from China where I don’t only get the best deals but also get products that aren’t available locally. If you’re thinking that buying from online marketplaces from China is a risky affair, then let me tell you that’s just another myth. If you’re buying from a good website, you will get what you pay for, and you won’t have to wait for long to get the products you ordered.
Tinkeo.com is one such global online marketplace from China that I have a perfect experience with and have been continually buying products from their website.
