Chinese ambition: Bohai water to Xinjiang

bohai water to XinjiangWestern China’s Xinjiang government hosted a summit to talk about possible solutions to its scarcity of water in the capital city of Urumqi on Nov. 5.

Experts at the forum discussed “seawater western tune” assumption – the possibility of introducing water from Bohai Sea to Xinjiang.

The basic concept is to transport water from the northwest coast of the Bohai Sea to an altitude of 1,200 meters high to deliver it to the southeastern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and then to Xinjiang from east to west along the 42nd parallel latitude line.Xinjiang Desert

This plan was expected to suppress the desert in Xinjiang by providing abundant water to fill up playa lakes, lagoons and enclosed structural basins in the desert to form artificial seawater rivers and lakes.

The expert said the project can be completed within 6 years and the cost will be around 8 Yuan for each ton of water.

Xinjiang has an area about one-sixth of the total territory of the China, making it the largest of China’s regions and provinces. The geography of Xinjiang is dominated by the scorching desert of Tarim Pendi to the South, a particularly dry and inhospitable place.

The eastern sea transferred to the west, a lot of people think it is unbelievable. Now it becomes a hot topic on Tianyan forum, some people do not think it can come true, while more people are talking about the methods and possibility to make it real.
