1. Hengshan Mountain Hanging Temple (恒山悬空寺)

The Hanging Temple is a temple built into a cliff near Mount Heng, Shanxi province. It is 64km from Datong City. Built more than 1,500 years ago, this temple is notable not only for its location on a sheer precipice but also because it includes Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian elements. The structure is kept in place with oak crossbeams fitted into holes chiseled into the cliffs. The main supportive structure was hidden inside the bedrock.

2. Daciyan Hanging Temple (大慈岩悬空寺)

Daciyan Hanging Temple is situated just 24 kilometres from Jiande City. The temple is built in 586-metre-high caves on the face of a cliff. The halls, corridors and pillars connect with the caves in a natural way. Although the temple looks a little haphazard because a large part of it stretches out into the air, it is safe. Huge stone pillars support the whole building.

Qiaolou Hall (Qiaolou Dian) is a famous hanging temples in China and also one of the outstanding masterpieces of China’s ancient architectures. It is located in Cangyan Mountain, about 70km southwest of Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province.

4. Sanqingge Pavilions (三清阁)

Sanqingge Pavilions are Daoist temple compound located in West Hill of Kunming, Yunnan Province. The complex stands on a sheer cliff and is heavily sheltered by green vegetation. It contains 11 buildings including Linguang Hall, Laojun Hall and so on.

5. Tulouguan Temple (青海西宁土楼观)

The temple leans against Tulou Mountain in a northern suburb of Xining city.The Temple was constructed in Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534). It was built based on a natural faultage on the mountainside according to Danxia landscape featuring stone alternating between softness and hardness. Looking up you can see the crag and looking down you can see the cleft. Only the temple hangs in the middle, hence its other name Xuankong Temple (Hanging Temple). It is the second largest Xuankong Temple in China.

6. Chaoyang Hanging Temple (河南淇县朝阳悬空寺)

Chaoyang Hanging Temple is located 5km from Qi Couty, Henan Province. The temple was built on the cliff just like in the air, hence the name Chaoyang Xuankong Temple.
