October 13th 5:30 pm, a car accident occurred in Foshan, south of China. A Car hit a 2-year-old little girl and then fled. No passersby reached out to help and then another car ran over her. A total of 18 people passed by but no body extended a hand or called the police, up until the 19th person, a the trash collector came to rescue her, but 7 minutes had already passed since she was hit by the first van. The trash collector moved the girl to the side of the street and called for help, and the girl’s mother came to the rescue. immediately rushed over and rushed her to the hospital.
The girl, named online as Yueyue, is in a coma in hospital and she had been declared ‘brain dead’ and could die at any time.
Yueyue’s father Wang said:”Yueyue is so lovely. If I quarrelled with her mother and if her mother cried, she would tell us not to cry, she always tried to amuse us” , “I just hope my child will wake up and call me Dad again.”
Both drivers who ran her over have been arrested, but internet users have flooded microblogs over the apathy of the people who left her to die.
On China’s microblog service Sina Weibo, one user called the incident ‘the shame of the Chinese people’.
The incident is the latest case that has prompted debate as to whether people in today’sChinaare too cold-blooded to help, or whether it is advisable to stay away from an accident to avoid being accused by the victim or incurring potential financial or other costs from getting involved.
The notorious Nanjing Peng Yu incident five years ago is still fresh in the minds of many. In 2006, Peng Yu, a young man who had just gotten off of a bus inNanjing, came to the aid a 65-year-old woman who had been knocked down by a fellow passenger. The woman eventually sued Peng, claiming he was the one who had knocked her down.

I learnt that U.S. law sets it down that children under the age of 12 can not be let alone, not even at home, children must be accompanied by an adult.but no such regulations in China. Most Chinese show great attention to condemning passersby and the drivers.
